Nairobi, (hargeisawateragency) -The year-end quarterly meeting on Hargeisa city’s water supply expansion projects was held in Kenya’s capital Nairobi on November 03, 2016.
The meeting which brought Somaliland government officials and donors together was attended by Somaliland’s Minister of National Planning Mr. Ali Salan Jirde, Hargeisa Water Agency Manager Mr. Ibrahim Siyad Yonis, representatives of donor states, and representatives of German development bank (KFW), EU, World Bank, DFID, GIZ, UN Habitat, embassies of the Germany and Netherlands.
During the meeting, National Planning Minister, Mr. Ali Salan Jirde and Hargeisa Water Agency Manager Mr. Ibrahim Siyad Yonis made various presentations to the representatives of donor states and agencies.
During his in-depth presentation to the donors who support the ongoing water supply expansion projects in the city, Hargeisa Water Agency Manager Mr. Ibrahim Siyad Yonis stated that the city’s water supply expansion project is in its final stages and Hargeisa residents will get sufficient water supply in the first quarter of next year.
Similarly, National Planning Minister, Mr. Ali Salan Jirde also briefed the conference attendees about the milestone achievements of Hargeisa water supply extension project and noted that so far satisfactory performance has been achieved and the rest will be finalized soon.
Finally, the Somaliland delegation led by the Minister of National planning Mr.Ali Salan Jirde and the General Manager of Hargeisa Water Agency, Mr.Ibrahim Siyad Yonis had final discussions with the donors regarding their future plans in supporting of the ongoing water supply expansion projects in the city.
The Hargeisa Urban Water Supply Upgrading Project (HUWSUP) which is in its final stages is jointly funded by the European Union and the Somaliland Development Fund to the tune of EUR 15 million and USD 8.6 million respectively. The project is implemented by UN-Habitat, in partnership with the Hargeisa Water Agency and the Somaliland Ministry of Water Resources.
