The General Manager of Hargeisa Water Agency (HWA), Mr. Mohamed Ali Darod, the Minister of Water Resources Development, Mohamed Muse Dirie, the Governor of Marodijeh, Jama H. Ahmed, other representatives from the government and local elders, carried out a site visit to the Reservoirs D &C in Koodbur and Ga’an Libah districts, respectively. Reservoir D is the key operation base for KfW funded project. The main on-going activities are the construction of the reservoirs D & C, pipe laying and kiosk constructions.

 

The main objective of the visit was to sensitize and create a greater degree of awareness among the residents of Hargeisa on the on-going water supply expansion works inside Hargeisa city, namely the KfW funded project. The project which comprises of 13.4 km transmission mains, 150km distribution network including 503 water kiosk connections, 4 reinforced concrete service reservoirs as well as basic sanitation facilities, is being implemented by an international contractor, Ludwig Pfeiffer Hoch- und Tiefbau GmbH & Co. KG, with an expected completion date of November 2021.

In his speech, the General Manager of Hargeisa Water Agency called on the government and local communities to fully support and collaborate with the contractor and Hargeisa Water Agency team to enable them to achieve the project’s expected results. He emphasized their commitment to develop a solid relationship with the government ministries, police, municipality and local residents so they can help HWA to carry out the project works as smoothly as possible.

In addition to , both the Minister of Water Resources Development and the Governor of Marodijeh expressed the government’s full support for the water supply expansion project, and told the public that any obstruction to the project will not be tolerated by the law enforcement authorities.

Finally, local community elders promised that they will leave no stone unturned to facilitate the project works and solve any issues and risks as they arise.
