Hargeisa Water Supply and Basic Sanitation Project

Hargeisa Water Agency in collaboration with the Municipality of Hargeisa will be implementing Hargeisa Water Supply and Basic Sanitation Project, where €23.55 million has been financed by the Federal Republic of Germany through KfW Development Bank.
The objective of the Hargeisa Water Supply and Basic Sanitation Project is to improve access to clean water supply and basic sanitation in particular for the poor population in Hargeisa, in an economically, socially and environmentally sustainable way.
The Contract was awarded to Ludwig Pfeiffer Hoch- und Tiefbau GmbH & Co. KG in October 2018.
Consulting services will be provided through CES Consulting Engineers Salzgitter GmbH.
The project activities will involve the rehabilitation and extension of the existing water distribution networks in the districts Ahmed Dagah, Mohamoud Haybe, Ga’an Libah, 26 June and Ibrahim Koodbur. 13.4 km transmission mains, 150km distribution network and 4 reinforced concrete service reservoirs will be constructed. A number of existing water kiosks will also be rehabilitated for the new water supply system as well as a number of new kiosks that will be constructed, in total 503 kiosks extending across the whole of Hargeisa.
The Municipality of Hargeisa are responsible for inner-city sanitation and as part of the project a Wastewater Treatment Facility, toilets and septic tanks in public institutions in town will be constructed.
Hargeisa Water Agency will also be introducing tariffs that are socially affordable before the completion of the Project.
