Water quality is paramount, and our lab plays a crucial role in maintaining the health and well-being of our community.

Our Mission

To safeguard public health by rigorously monitoring and maintaining the quality of Hargeisa's water supply throughout the entire distribution system, from the source to the tap. We implement comprehensive water safety plans and conduct regular testing to ensure clean, reliable water for all residents.

What We Do

• Comprehensive Testing: We conduct daily monitoring and analysis of water samples taken from various points across the city, including reservoirs and customer taps, ensuring the water remains safe after treatment.
• Water Safety Planning: We are integral to the agency's water safety planning, which covers the entire supply chain to prevent contamination and maintain water integrity. This includes careful procedures during maintenance to protect water quality.
• Monitoring & Reporting: We meticulously analyze and record test results, adapting our sampling schedules as needed to ensure effective monitoring across all districts.
• Collaboration: Water safety is a shared responsibility. We work closely with other Hargeisa Water Agency departments, including Water Production, the Center for Digitalization and Water Technology, and the Commercial Department, to implement a unified approach to water safety. This includes harmonizing schedules and defining procedures for flushing points, sampling points, and cleaning.

Partnerships & Development

The Hargeisa Water Agency, including our laboratory, collaborates with the National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) of Uganda through an EU-funded Water Operator Project, supported by the UN-Habitat Global Water Operators' Partnerships Alliance (GWOPA). This partnership provides valuable mentorship and knowledge transfer, strengthening our operational capacity and ensuring we utilize best practices in water quality management. Experts like Emma Kyomukama provide ongoing support and training to enhance our team's skills.
