Hargeisa Agency Inaugurates New Borehole Amidst Community Generosity and Collaborative Spirit
As the Vice Governor of the Maroodi-Jeeh Region, Wali Abdi Jama made this statement during the inauguration ceremony for a new borehole. His remarks focused on expressing gratitude and acknowledging the collaborative effort involved in the project. He specifically highlighted the selflessness of the local community surrounding Hargeisa, noting their willingness to prioritize the city's water needs over their own potential agricultural benefits. He emphasized that their support and desire for development were crucial to the realization of the new borehole. He stated:

“First of all, all thanks to Allah. My greetings to the delegation led by the two ministers, the minister of environment and climate and the minister of water, the General Manager of the Hargeisa Water Agency as well as two former general managers of the agency. If we combine all the districts that surround Hargeisa, it is very unlikely to find a community like this that would prefer Hargeisa to receive water instead of having their farms in full without boreholes being dug in parts of it. I would like to profoundly thank the local community for facilitating this because without their generosity and appetite for development, this inauguration today of this new borehole would not have been possible.”
On a change of tune, the vice governor of Maroodi-Jeex, Wali Abdi Jama, addressed the Hargeisa Water Agency General Manager, Mohamed Ali Darood, for his previous remarks during the election season. The vice governor stated,
“I acknowledge that the Hargeisa Water Agency’s General Manager is doing a wonderful job with the agency's efforts to improve Hargeisa water infrastructure. Doing something is often more challenging than simply talking about it. I have previously challenged the General Manager and criticized him, but now that I have seen with my own eyes what has been achieved, I would like to apologize for my previous remarks. The petty of politics of the election season are often painful and words of fire skip the mouth, but I suggest we close that chapter now and open a new page for effortless collaborations between the office of the Vice Governor and the Hargeisa Water Agency”
Expressing gratitude and highlighting the collaborative spirit of the community, the Governor of Darasalam District, Ciise Muse Ahmed, began his address by stating:
“Thanks to Allah for bringing us here today. First, I would like to thank the Minister of Environment and Climate Change, the Minister of Water and the vice governor of Maroodi-Jeex region as well as the Hargeisa Water Agency General Manager. We are today at Horgaadlay vicinity, which is a sub-district of Darasalaam. We welcome them all Darasalam District. Apart from the welcoming remarks, I would like to thank the Darasalam community in general and their close relations with Hargeisa Water Agency employees, in specific I would like to thank the community for their positive contributions to water infrastructure development projects for Hargeisa. This farm is one of the many farms that have donated their land for boreholes and helped increase the capacity of Hargeisa Water Agency to pump more water to residents of Hargeisa. I would also like to thank the farm owners who have welcomed Hargeisa Water Agency engineers who have inspected their farmland for more new boreholes to be dug. The Darasalam community in general has always welcomed development projects and will continue to support the Hargeisa Water Agency in its efforts to improve water infrastructure for the capital city of the Republic of Somaliland, Hargeisa.”
Speaking at the inauguration, Engineer Abdalla Sacad Muse, a Hydrology Engineer at the Hargeisa Water Agency, provided specific details about the newly constructed borehole. He noted:
“The depth of this borehole is 213 meters and the water reached only 30 meters depth. When the experiment was conducted and the borehole stayed live pumping water for continuous 24 hours, the level of the water reduced only for 4 meters meaning the depth of the borehole is still only 34 meters deep. As the previous engineer explained, all the 213 meters of depth are available for water harvesting, but for safety and the sustainability of the borehole, the 70 meter water harvesting will be maintained. Once again, I would like to thank the private citizen, Abdikarim Adam. As you all can see, the farm is operational with crops yielding harvest all around and yet Abdikarim has donated the land for this borehole for Hargeisa residents to receive more water. He is not a resident of Hargeisa himself but his generosity will be highly appreciated both by the agency and the residents of Hargeisa.”
