Minister Abdilahi Jamac Cisman (GeelJire) on Hargeisa Water Expansion

A number of ministers led by the Minister of Environment and Climate Change visited the inaugural ceremony of a new borehole that was in the vicinity of Darasalaam. The farm on which the borehole was dug came as a gift from a private citizen who donated the land, which is part of his farm, to the Hargeisa Water Agency for the borehole. The Minister of Environment and Climate Change, Minister Abdilahi Jamac Cisman, in addition to the inaugural ceremony, the minister was on official duty to assess the environmental impact of the ongoing project. The minister also observed the site of the biggest dam in Somaliland, Kalqoray, built and financed by the Hargeisa Water Agency.

In his opening remarks the minister stated, “Thank you all for bringing us out here today, we have visited the biggest dam in Somaliland built and funded by the Hargeisa Water Agency. And we are currently at this newly built water borehole that we were told is a very deep borehole extending almost 300m deep with water reached only at 30m depth.”

Impressed by the depth of the work and efforts ongoing to improve Hargeisa’ Water infrastructure and yet the lacking public communications campaign to raise awareness by the agency, the Minister stated, “Hargeisa Water Agency’s work and the projects they are carrying out are being shadowed by the high demand for running water in Hargeisa. I would like to encourage the Hargeisa Water Agency to double their efforts on public awareness and let the public know the work that is under way. Just like when a host is preparing a meal for a guest at their house, they often wonder how long will it take for the meal to be prepared and in a similar manner, Hargeisa residents are wondering when will water reach them. I again emphasise the importance of public relations. In a similar fashion, a host would entertain the guest while the meal is being prepared which will reduce their worrisome and Hargeisa residents should be communicated to clearly so that they are aware of every step of the way for the work that is being done to improve the water infrastructure.”

Speaking with gratitude and a vision for the future the Minister acknowledged the generous donations from the patriotic Somalilander who gifter part of his farm for the borehole. Minister Abdilahi stated, “I would also like to thank the private citizen that gifted us this farm for the borehole to be dug. This is an investment into the future of his country and at the same worth a lot in the hereafter as Sadaqa. It shows how the citizen is concern of his fellow citizens in Hargeisa, while he does not reside in Hargeisa and the benefits of the borehole will not reach him directly, I encourage the Hargeisa Water Agency to allow the citizen to the water from the borehole for his farm here so that he also benefits and may Allah bestow barakaat on what is left of his farm.”

Transitioning to a broader message of appreciation and unity, Minister Abdilahi Geeljire then emphasized the importance of recognizing positive contributions and focusing on collective progress, noting: “And finally, it's paramount that we thank each other as people of the Republic of Somaliland when one of us is doing a great job. I thank the General Manager for his efforts to improve water infrastructure and I acknowledge that the agency has already extended running water to new areas in Hargeisa and the water expansion project is still ongoing and will reach more and more new areas. I also encourage Somalilanders to occupy with themselves the issues that benefit us all instead of paying attention to naysayers and propaganda that does not benefit anyone.”
